Instructor Spotlight: Tommy Davidson

This month, The Slice profiles Tommy Davidson, a professional trombonist who assists Stanley Middle School’s instrumental music program.
What do you do for LPIE and how long have you been doing it?
I've been co-director of the jazz program at Stanley and Bob Athayde's assistant in the instrumental music program as well as an LPIE Artist-in-Residence from early 2003 to the present. I also taught at the four elementary schools with Liz Brummell for seven years. I'm currently co-director of JV jazz at Campolindo High School with Alex Murzyn, who is also an LPIE instructor at Stanley. I teach privately mostly in a studio at Lafayette’s Campana Music Store.
Tell us a little bit about your background in this area.
I started teaching middle school and high school in 1990 and have been a professional trombonist since 1978.
What is your favorite thing about teaching the age group that you work with?
The middle schoolers still have a touch of innocence that is charming and refreshing.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My wife and I enjoy camping and traveling. We also enjoy working on and promoting my non-profit Musicians in Concert Inc.
