‘Tis the Season For Winter Concerts at Lafayette’s Schools
The weeks leading up to winter break typically usher in a flurry of activity as everyone runs around trying to get all of their errands done in time for the holidays.
But these weeks also bring another tradition to Lafayette’s schools – the winter concert season.
Student musicians all over Lafayette have been preparing for months for these special concerts, which began last week with instrumental and choral performances at Acalanes High School and Stanley Middle School and conclude this week with concerts at all four elementary schools.

As LPIE President Amy Parlett points out in her letter this month, LPIE is a huge supporter of music in our schools, with the foundation giving $366,000 to support music education across all six schools.
That funding provides mentors and instructors for all of the district’s music programs, which allows the students to receive high-quality, individualized instruction in all areas, whether it be chorus, band, strings, jazz or wind ensemble.
“Without LPIE, all of this wouldn’t happen,” says Stanley’s longtime Director of Music Education Bob Athayde.
Last week, Stanley held two nights of concerts – one featuring performances from the school’s chorus, orchestra and Jazz Messengers group, and the other with the school’s Cadet Bands, Bronze and Silver Concert Bands and the Stanley Symphonic Band.

The Acalanes music department featured three evenings of concerts at the school’s performing arts center last week, including one night of jazz with the Acalanes Jazz Ensemble, Albany High School Jazz Band and the San Ramon Valley High School Jazz Band. The high school's choral groups are also performing at concerts on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.
Meanwhile, elementary school musicians will host their performances this week. Happy Valley had its concerts on Tuesday, while Lafayette Elementary and Springhill have theirs on Thursday and Burton Valley will wrap up the concert season on Friday, the last day before the break.
